The “Nightwalker”, Otto John, continued his impressive goal-scoring form, but even his magic couldn’t prevent Al Madina Tripoli from a heavy home defeat against Al Ittihad Misurata.
The home fans at Solyman Al Darrat watched their team fall to a 1-3 defeat in a crucial Libya Premier League qualification playoff match, Footballrover reports.
This loss marks a disappointing setback for Al Madina.
Otto John’s consolation goal against Al Ittihad Misurata
Al Madina Tripoli found themselves 3-0 down before the 27-year-old Nigerian forward managed to pull one goal back late in the game.
This penalty conversion, just three minutes from full-time, was his team’s only moment of cheer.
This goal against Al Ittihad Misurata was John’s third in his last five appearances, bringing his season tally to an impressive 10 goals in 13 matches.
Al Ittihad Misurata started strong, with Salem Aballo scoring in the 22nd minute. Mahmoud El Bouashi doubled their lead just before halftime in the 36th minute.
Mohammed Al Mangoush then extended Al Ittihad Misurata’s dominance, making it 3-0.
While John’s late penalty offered a small consolation, Al Ittihad Misurata comfortably secured the victory.
Al Madina’s struggles despite Otto John’s efforts
Al Madina Tripoli has now suffered two consecutive defeats, including a narrow 1-0 loss to Al Ittihad in their previous outing.
Their recent form is concerning, with four losses, two wins, and two draws in their last seven games.
These poor results have left them in 5th place in the Libya Premier League Championship Group table with only nine points, seven points behind league leaders Al Ahly Tripoli.
With just three matches remaining, Otto John and his teammates must regroup.
They will look to bounce back to winning ways when they host Olympic Azzaweya at the Solyman Al Darrat in their next challenge.
