10th Nigeria Pitch Awards: Winners Emerge as Osimhen, Iwobi, Aina, Finidi Claim Top Honours

The 10th edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards held at the Ibom Meridien Hotel and Resorts in Uyo on Saturday night was a resounding success, honouring the best of Nigerian football.

Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, and Finidi George were among the top winners of the evening, Footballrover reports.

Osimhen, the Napoli striker, took home two awards: Striker of the Year and King of the Pitch. Asisat Oshoala, the Bay FC striker, was named Queen of the Pitch, while Ola Aina, the Nottingham Forest fullback, clinched the Defender of the Year award.

Alex Iwobi, the Fulham FC midfielder, won the Midfielder of the Year award, and Finidi George, the Super Eagles head coach, was named Coach of the Year.

The awards ceremony, endorsed by the Nigeria Football Federation, marked a decade of recognising excellence in Nigerian football.

Other winners included Ojo Olorunleke (Goalkeeper of the Year), Enyimba Int’l FC (Team of the Year), and Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Football Pitch of the Year).

The event also honoured outstanding football journalists and a friendly governor, with Lagos State emerging as the state with the best grassroots football development programme.

Football Pitch of the Year 2023 – Winner: Godswill Akpabio International Stadium

Football Journalist of the Year (Online 2023) – Winner: Tobi Adepoju

Football Journalist of the Year (TV 2023) – Winner: Mozez Praiz (Supersport)

Football Journalist of the Year (Radio 2023) – Winner: Anthony Bekederemo (Brila 88.9 FM)

Football Journalist of the Year (Print 2023) – Winner: Johnny Edward (Punch Newspapers)

Football Friendly Governor of the Year 2023 – Winner: His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Governor, Lagos State)

State with the Best Grassroots Football Development Programme 2023 – Winner: Lagos State

Sam Okwaraji Award for Commitment to Nigerian Football 2023 – Winner: Hon. Kunle Soname (Owner of Remo Stars FC)
