Super Falcons star Demehin Oluwatosin is full of joy after Galatasaray Petrol Ofisi pulled off one of the most unforgettable upsets in recent UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) history, becoming the first Turkish club to ever secure a spot in the group stage of the competition.
After a decade of Turkish absence from this level, these Lionesses roared their way into the record books with an unforgettable 4-3 aggregate victory over Slavia Praha, Footballrover reports.
Galatasaray’s groundbreaking victory in the UWCL
The two-legged tie began with a hard-earned 2-2 draw at home in Istanbul, setting up a nail-biting second leg in Prague just a week later.
Galatasaray knew they needed a result on the road, and boy, did they deliver.
Despite the intimidating atmosphere at the Fortuna Arena, the Lionesses silenced Slavia Praha with a narrow but decisive 2-1 win, sealing their historic qualification.
Slavia took the lead in the first half, with Eda Karatas finding the net in the 31st minute.
However, Galatasaray women weren’t about to back down. Five minutes after the second-half kickoff, Arzu Karabulut levelled the score, igniting hopes of an unforgettable comeback.
But the true hero of the night was Nazlıcan Parlak, who came on as a substitute in the 97th minute and scored the match-winner just three minutes later.
It was the kind of extra-time drama that leaves fans on the edge of their seats, securing Galatasaray’s place in the UWCL group stage for the very first time.
It was a triumph built on determination, teamwork, and the vision of a club that’s only just getting started.
Galatasaray’s women’s team was founded in 2021, and in only a few short years, they’ve already claimed the Turkish league title and stormed into Europe’s elite competition.
They’re showing the world that Turkish football is a force to be reckoned with, and they’re ready to bring a taste of “Turkish delight” to the Women’s Champions League.
Demehin Oluwatosin’s impeccable timing for achievement.
Among those celebrating this historic achievement is Galatasaray’s new Nigerian signing, Demehin Oluwatosin.
The Nigerian defender, who recently joined the club on a one-year deal, took to her X page to share her excitement.
“The only impossible journey is the one you never begin,” she wrote. “Action: One word that can turn dreams into reality. Champions League baby, history is made, perfect timing, God is too faithful to fail.”

Demehin began her career in the Nigerian Women’s Football League with Sunshine Stars and Rivers Angels FC before gaining international recognition with the Nigerian Falconets at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
That outing earned her a move to French side Reims, where she continued to develop her game. Now, she’s set to make her mark on the biggest stage in Europe with Galatasaray.
For Demehin and the rest of the Galatasaray squad, this UWCL journey is just beginning.
Having already made history, they’re ready to take on the best Europe has to offer and prove that they belong among the continent’s elite.
