Kevin Martins, the son of Nigerian football icon Obafemi Martins, made a sensational senior debut for Monza in their 3-1 Copa Italia victory over Brescia.
The 19-year-old right winger showed off his skills from the very first whistle, Footballrover reports.
Kevin Martins impresses with early assist
Head coach Alessandro Nesta decided to shake things up by rotating his lineup, giving Martins a golden opportunity to make his mark.
And he didn’t disappoint! Just five minutes into the match, Martins whipped in a dangerous cross that caught the Brescia defence off guard, allowing Georgios Kyriakopoulos to pounce and score the opening goal.

This early contribution set the tone for Monza’s commanding performance, and with the momentum on their side, Monza continued to dominate.
Captain Matteo Pessina doubled the lead shortly after, heading in a well-placed cross that left the Brescia defence scrambling.
As the first half progressed, Gianluca Caprari added a third goal from the penalty spot, marking his first goal in 16 months and giving Monza a comfortable cushion.
Monza Secures much-needed victory
Although Brescia managed to pull one back through Patrick Nuamah in the second half, Monza’s strong performance ensured they maintained a two-goal advantage, securing a crucial victory.
This win was particularly sweet for Monza, ending a frustrating run of six games without a victory, which included three draws and two defeats.
They played out a goalless draw with Empoli in their opening league fixture before giving away a 1-0 defeat to Genoa.
Matchday three saw them draw 3-3 with Fiorentina, followed by a 1-1 draw with Inter, before Bologna crushed them 2-1.
Looking ahead, Kevin Martins and his teammates will have to prepare for a tough matchup against Napoli at the iconic Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
As the son of Obafemi, who enjoyed a storied career in Europe, Kevin will be hoping to forge his own path in football while carrying on his father’s impressive legacy.
Having joined Monza after time in the youth systems of both Milan and Inter, Kevin is poised to become a rising star in the sport.
Recall that his father, Obafemi Martins, is regarded as one of Africa’s finest forwards.
He had notable stints at prestigious clubs such as Inter Milan, Newcastle United, and Wolfsburg, achieving considerable success during his time in Europe before transitioning to the United States.
On the international stage, Martins excelled as well, scoring 18 times in 42 matches for the Super Eagles from 2004 to 2015.
Now 39, he is set to turn 40 next month and hang up his boots in 2021. Meanwhile, his son Kevin is now carrying on the family legacy in football.
