The much-anticipated kickoff for the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season has been postponed yet again.
This unforeseen twist was announced in an official letter signed by Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, and addressed to the Chairmen and General Managers of all NPFL Clubs.
The letter, issued by the NPFL Board, contained crucial information for football enthusiasts and stakeholders.
It states that the originally scheduled kickoff for the 2023/24 season has been put on hold due to pressing concerns related to the league’s sponsorship.
As a result, the highly anticipated flag-off game, initially set for Saturday, September 9, will not take place as planned.
This unforeseen delay has left fans and clubs disappointed, as they’ve been hoping to grab a glimpse of the new season this weekend.
The NPFL has assured everyone that a new kickoff date will be communicated in the near future, once the sponsorship issues have been resolved.
In the meantime, stakeholders are urged to stay informed and prepare for the upcoming season accordingly.
The letter reads;
“The Board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) wish to inform you that the scheduled kickoff for the 2023/24 season has been put on hold and a new date will be communicated to you. This is due to the exigencies connected to the sponsorship of the League.”
It further reads that;
“Therefore that there will be no flag-off game this Saturday, September 9 as originally planned. This is for your information and necessary action please.”
