Rivers United stretched their lead atop the NPFL log to four points after a frantic – yet highly enjoyable – 2-1 win over Nasarawa United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Saturday.
Nyima Nwagua was the star performer.
The Pride of Rivers early attack paid off when Nyima Nwagua set up Chijioke Akuneto for the game’s breakthrough after 23 minutes, backed by the sound of the ever vibrant Rivers United football club supporters club’s drums and trumpets.
Ishaq Kayode scored his tenth goal of the season and the game’s second goal 17 minutes later, but Michael Tochukwu cut the lead in half after 72 minutes.

The game boiled up into a tremendous display in the closing stages, as both sides pounded each other with attacks.
Rivers United’s attacking flair was vital, but so was Sochima Victor’s management. Nasarawa United demonstrated why they are one of the top ten teams in the NPFL, but Coach Stanley Eguma’s team matched their eagerness and took their opportunities.

After matchday 15, the Stanley Eguma-coached team will remain atop the NPFL log, regardless of the results from Sunday’s games.
Rivers United have an away game against Kano Pillars in Kaduna on Wednesday 2nd March, but more significantly, the Pride of Rivers closed February with a thrilling and much-welcome victory.
