Controversy Erupts Over Jose Pesiero’s Contract: Nigerians Call for NFF Chairman’s Resignation
In a surprising turn of events, Ibrahim Musa Gusua, Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), declared that the decision regarding Jose Pesiero’s continued tenure as the Super Eagles Manager will now rest solely on the shoulders of passionate fans and seasoned analysts.
The announcement has sparked outrage and intense debates throughout the nation.
With Pesiero’s one-year contract set to expire on June 30, Gusua has emphasized that the NFF will organize a special social media poll.
According to him, this is to enable supporters to determine whether the 63-year-old Portuguese coach, who boasts a record of four victories and five defeats during his tenure, should retain his position or step aside.
However, this unconventional approach to decision-making has drawn criticism from many quarters.
A significant number of Nigerians remain skeptical of Pesiero’s ability to guide the country to glory at the upcoming Nations Cup in the Ivory Coast next year.
Prominent sports commentator, Triedstone Sports, voiced strong disapproval, stating;
“If it is indeed true that the Nigerian public holds the power to decide Jose Pesiero’s future as the Super Eagles coach, then Ibrahim Musa Gusua should resign immediately. This level of absurdity is beyond comprehension. Have we transitioned from an arrogantly authoritative figure like Pinnick to a clueless Gusua? What is happening here?“
Adding fuel to the fire, reports have surfaced regarding Pesiero’s substantial monthly salary of US$70,000 (S$94,629).
Sierra Leone.
While the coach successfully led Nigeria to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a remarkable 3-2 away victory against Sierra Leone earlier this month, many remain skeptical about his long-term capabilities.
As tensions continue to mount, Nigerians are united in their call for transparency, accountability, and an effective decision-making process that prioritizes the nation’s footballing aspirations.
