The Netherlands entered the match having defeated Senegal in their opening match. The Oranje’s most recent match ended in a 1-1 draw with Ecuador after Enner Valencia overturned Cody Gakpo’s opening goal.

In order to secure first place in the group, Louis van Gaal’s team needed to win by a significant margin, and in the end, they undoubtedly succeeded.

Cody Gakpo scored the game’s first goal with a deft move and finish for his third goal of the tournament. With the exception of a few of distant half-chances for Qatar, the Oranje were in total control.

Four minutes into second half, Frenkie De Jong pounced from close range to double Netherlands’ lead.

After Klassen delivered a cross to the back post, Memphis Depay attempted to score from close range, but Barsham made a superb reflex save to deny him.

De Jong was the first to respond to the rebound, and he doubled their advantage by firing a shot into an open goal to seal with win and all three points.

After earning four points from their first two games, the Netherlands only needed a point to advance to the second round of the tournament. However, they went on to earn a solid three points to finish first in their group.

As a result of losing their opening two games to Senegal and Ecuador, Qatar already crashed out of the competition at the group stage.
