Bayer Leverkusen maintained their Bundesliga lead despite missing star striker Victor Boniface, thanks to a crucial goal from Nathan Tella and late heroics from Czech talisman Patrik Schick over Leipzig.
With Boniface sidelined for three months due to injury, Xabi Alonso’s squad faced a stern test against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena, Footballrover reports.
But the Super Eagles’ Nathan Tella stepped up, scoring the equaliser in the 47th minute after coming on as a substitute for the injured Jeremie Frimpong.
Leipzig Strikes First, Tella Levels, and Hincapie Wins It Late
RB Leipzig drew first blood with Arthur’s strike in the 7th minute, but Tella responded quickly upon entering the fray, unleashing a fierce shot into the net after Alex Grimaldo’s precise delivery.
The pendulum swung again as Lois Openda put Leipzig ahead, before Schick equalised in the 63rd minute with a towering header.
Just when a draw seemed inevitable, Piero Hincapie rose to the occasion, nodding home a late cross to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory for Leverkusen.
This crucial win extends their lead at the top of the table to six points over Bayern Munich.
Tella Impresses Despite Goal
Beyond his crucial goal, Tella impressed with a 92% pass accuracy, three tackles, and 42 touches, proving his worth as a valuable asset for Leverkusen even in Boniface’s absence.
