The visitors doubled their lead in the 21st minute, thanks to a brilliant individual effort from Mathias Honsak, who danced through three Leverkusen defenders before drilling the ball past the goalkeeper.
It seemed as though Leverkusen were facing an uphill battle, but they were far from finished.
A swift response from Leverkusen in the first half leveled the score. Exequiel Palacios got them back on track, firing in from a tight angle just before the half-hour mark.
Two minutes later, Patrik Schick got on the scoresheet with a clever chip over the goalkeeper, bringing the score to 2-2.
The visitors, stunned by the rapid turnaround, struggled to recover.
Leverkusen continued their comeback story in the second half, and seven minutes after the restart, they took the lead.
Florian Wirtz set up Schick, who cleverly flicked the ball in to put his team ahead for the first time.
The pressure mounted, and Tella, who had already been involved in the buildup, struck the woodwork shortly after, signaling Leverkusen’s growing dominance.
Schick completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute with a powerful header off a cross from Arthur, sealing the game for Leverkusen.
In the 82nd minute, Granit Xhaka added a fifth goal with a stunning curling shot from the edge of the box, leaving Heidenheim with little chance of a comeback.
It was a resounding victory that showed both Tella’s contribution and Leverkusen’s resilience.
Despite Boniface’s absence, Leverkusen’s attacking prowess was on full display, with Tella playing a huge role in their stunning turnaround.
