Due to his team’s recent performance, Gareth Southgate, the manager of England national team, has expressed concerns regarding the length of his contract and the World Cup coming real soon.
Despite the length of his contract, the England Boss declared that he is not certain to remain in his current position, adding that the Three Lions’ World Cup achievement will determine whether he stays or goes.
The FA extended Southgate’s contract to December 2024 after the manager led England to the Euro 2020 final the previous year.
But since then, things have gotten worse. A lot of supporters have called for a managerial change ahead of the World Cup later this year after England was recently demoted to Nations League B following a record of no single victory in five games.
I think Gareth Southgate’s tactical master plan of not giving us any hope in order not to kill us is working beautifully thus far.

Few anticipated this scenario when Southgate signed his contract extension in November, and the manager has acknowledged that even the additional years on his deal won’t save him if England do poorly in Qatar.
“I am not foolish. I know ultimately I will be judged on what happens at that World Cup. Contracts are irrelevant in football because managers can have three, four, five-year contracts and you accept that if results are not good enough it is time to go your separate ways. Why would I be any different? I am not arrogant enough to think that my contract is going to protect me in any way.” – Southgate said.

Southgate added;
“I am absolutely appreciative of [the FA support]. But of course we understand how the mood changes with the results and has changed. I am realistic about that and I will be judged on what we do in Qatar and I am perfectly happy to be judged in that way. History is history and you are judged on the next match and the next tournament.”
Despite the criticism and pressure he is facing, Southgate stressed that the fans should unite for the greater cause of supporting England to victory and that his future is unimportant.
“We can only succeed if we’re all pushing in the same direction, and we’ve all got that positive energy towards doing well. What happens to me is irrelevant, frankly. It’s about the team. The most important thing is the team and the success of the team.” – he said.
