Plymouth Argyle found themselves on the brink of another disappointing loss, but Nigerian forward Muhamed Tijani stepped up just in time for the rescue in EFL Championship.
His first goal of the season salvaged a crucial point in their 1-1 draw against 10-man Cardiff City at Home Park on Saturday afternoon, Footballrover reports.
Despite having a numerical advantage for most of the second half, Plymouth failed to capitalise, leaving fans frustrated.
Muhamed Tijani strikes late to secure a point
Plymouth started the game on the back foot as Cardiff’s Yousef Salech broke the deadlock just 12 minutes in.
The hosts struggled to create clear-cut chances, and their woes deepened heading into halftime with no response.
However, the tide seemed to turn in the 53rd minute when Cardiff was reduced to 10 men.
Dimitrios Goutas received a straight red card for bringing down Bali Mumba, giving Plymouth a golden opportunity to mount a comeback.
And there came Muhamed Tijani, who was introduced in the 63rd minute, and the 24-year-old forward wasted no time to prove his worth.
Just four minutes after stepping onto the pitch, he made an instant impact.
A long ball from Maxi was expertly knocked down by Bundu into Tijani’s path, and the Nigerian forward made no mistake, volleying home his first goal of the season to level the score.
Plymouth’s struggles continue despite Muhamed Tijani’s brilliance
Despite having an extra man for the majority of the second half, Plymouth failed to find a winner.
The draw now extends their winless streak to three games, following a 2-0 loss to Blackburn and a 1-1 draw with Luton.
For Muhamed Tijani, that strike marked his first goal of the season after seven appearances.
His only previous contribution came on September 27, 2024, when he assisted in Plymouth’s 3-1 win over Luton Town.
Plymouth’s struggles this season continue. With just six wins in 34 games, 16 defeats, and 12 draws, they sit 23rd in the Championship table with 30 points—deep in the relegation zone.
Up next, they face Manchester City in the FA Cup before a crucial league battle against Hull City.
