Moses Simon continued his brilliant form for Nantes, but despite his best efforts, the team was forced to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw against Saint-Étienne.
The Super Eagles star netted a spectacular goal early in the match, but a late equaliser for the hosts meant Nantes left with just one point, failing to capitalise on their slim lead, footballrover reports.
Moses Simon’s early strike gives Nantes the lead
The Ligue 1 Matchday 18, which took place at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, saw Moses Simon put Nantes in front after just 14 minutes.
Simon’s goal was a moment of individual brilliance as he rifled a shot into the top left corner, leaving goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur helpless.
This goal marked his 10th goal contribution in just 16 Ligue 1 appearances this season, with five goals and five assists to his name.
Nantes settles for draw despite Moses Simon’s impact
Nantes had hoped to end a four-match winless streak, which included two draws and a defeat, but could not hold on to their lead.
Despite dominating possession, Saint-Étienne found an equaliser late in the game, with Augustine Boakye scoring in the 86th minute.
Moses Simon’s influence cannot be overstated, as he has been responsible for nearly half of Nantes’ goals this season.
He also had a strong run of form, contributing two goals and an assist in his last five matches.
Unfortunately, Simon was substituted in the 71st minute, and Nantes ended up giving away two points to earn just one.
In what was another disappointing result for Nantes, Simon’s goal was not enough to secure a vital victory, leaving the team to regroup ahead of their next fixture against Lyon.
