Nigerian striker Moses Ebiye was the star man for Motherwell, as his early goal propelled his team to a 3-1 victory over Clyde in the Scottish League Cup on Saturday evening.
Ebiye opened the scoring for Motherwell, creating an atmosphere for a commanding performance that saw them win comfortably, Footballrover reports.
The drama unfolded at New Douglas Park in Hamilton as Motherwell unleashed a blistering attack that left Clyde reeling.
Ebiye, the early hero, was set up on a silver platter by Ewan Wilson to snatch the lead with a clinical finish after just 12 minutes of game play.
The Steelmen looked poised for a comfortable victory, but Clyde refused to surrender, finding an equaliser through Lee Hamilton in the second half.
Just when it seemed the match was heading for a tense finish, 17-year-old Lennon Miller stepped up to convert a penalty, putting the visitors back in the driver’s seat.
Sensing more scoring opportunities, the visiting team made a slight tactical change, replacing Ebiye with the fresh legs of Filip Stuparevic.
And boy, did that pay off! The 23-year-old Serbian sensation sealed the deal after converting a well-received pass from Zach Robinson, leaving Clyde heartbroken.
Despite playing for just 72 minutes in the Scotland League Cup Group G third-day encounter, the 27-year-old Nigerian attacker managed to register over five shots, just one of which found the back of the net.
With that win, Motherwell’s winning streak now stands at an impressive four matches, and they’ll be brimming with confidence as they prepare to host Partick Thistle next Sunday in the League Cup. This is a team on fire!
