In the Nations League match that saw England draw Germany 3-3 at Wembley, Harry Maguire had a night he would prefer to forget after a poor display saw him give their opponents two goals.
Following a careless pass to Bayern Munich forward – Jamal Musiala, the Manchester United defender conceded a penalty that led to Germany’s first goal.
Maguire tripped the youngster in the box out of panic, and the referee gave Germany a penalties, which Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan scored.

After giving the ball away in the Germany half fifteen minutes later, Maguire was once more on the losing end of the game as the Germans went on to make it 2-0.
He carelessly allowed the opposition to gain control, and they immediately passed the ball to Kai Havertz. The Chelsea forward executed a killer goal beautifully, leaving Nick Pope with no hope.
Before the game, the Three Lions were already demoted to the competition’s second division with a loss to Italy, thus Gareth Southgate’s team was in dire need of victory but failed to grab one.
Maguire also didn’t demonstrate why he should have been chosen over other center backs like Fikayo Tomori, and Southgate has come under fire and harsh criticism for choosing to call him up and use him frequently.
However, the England manager backed the defender, describing him as one of the team’s most crucial players.

While Maguire also apologized for his performance on Instagram after the game, saying that mistakes are inevitable in the game of football.
🗣 “Mistakes are part of the game, I apologise. Great fight back and spirit to get us back into the game by the lads. Take the positives and look forward to Qatar. The tough times will make us stronger.” – he said.
