In a memo sent to the players, the Nigeria National League (NNL) club confirmed the release of 21 players ahead of the upcoming season, Footballrover reports.

This news comes after the club placed fifth in the Conference A table, failing to book a spot in the Super 8 playoffs.

They won only eight of the 22 matches they played the previous season, with eight draws and six defeats.

The team only scored 23 goals and conceded 27, finishing with 32 points.

This significant player exodus will surely raise a lot of questions concerning the club and how they manage players’ welfare.

However, a report from newspathfinder suggests that Abia Comets FC’s released players fall into two categories: those whose contracts ended and are pursuing new opportunities, and those who were on loan and have been returned to their original clubs.

According to the report, the club chairman, Mr. Boniface Uche assured that Abia Comets has a clean record of financials, with all players and staff being paid promptly.

He clarified that there have been no staff terminations except for those whose contracts naturally ended with the season.

As we prepare for the new season, those of them that their services will be needed will be recalled,” he concluded.
