Erik ten Hag has helped United succeed as the Red Devils overcame a terrible performance last week to defeat an unfocused Liverpool.

Sancho’s goal in the first half gave United momentum, and Rashford doubled their lead, before Salah gave Liverpool a chance to rally, but United held off their late charge to secure the unforgettable victory and all three points.

Under the Dutchman, Manchester United have struggled to get off to a good start, losing to Brentford and Brighton during their first two Premier League games.

They were largely anticipated to lose again when Liverpool visited them on Monday, but they put on a brave and heartfelt performance to defeat their longtime rivals.

In his post-game interview with Sky Sports, Ten Hag emphasized United’s tenacity over any tactical factors that contributed to their triumph.

We can talk about tactics, but it’s all about attitude. We can see that attitude on the pitch,” he began. There was communication, there was fighting spirit, and especially there was [teamwork] and you can see what they can achieve, because they can play fucking good football.” – he said.

The Man Utd managed added;

I said to [the players] we have to act, not talk a lot. Make sure you are a team and battle and be brave. It’s not only about spirit out of possession. Sometimes strikers think they cannot do it because they have to save their energy for offensive actions. Nowadays it’s a demand and that is what you saw. It makes me happy Rashford and Sancho scored the goals.”

With their victory, United move up two spots to 14th in the early Premier League standings, ahead of winless Liverpool.

Even though it’s only one game, this is their first win against the Reds in the Premier League since March 2018.

Obviously, this Liverpool side are not having any trouble finding the back of the net; they’ve now scored in each of their last 22 Premier League games.

However, Klopp should be more concerned about Liverpool’s recent defending because they won’t win trophies this way.
