Maduka Okoye recently opened up about the unique challenge he faced when going head-to-head with his fellow Nigerian, Victor Osimhen, while he was in Serie A.
Facing a player of Victor’s calibre is never an easy task, as the Super Eagles goalkeeper shared some surprising insights into what makes the Galatasaray star such a dangerous striker, Footballrover reports.
Their encounter last season, a thrilling 1-1 draw between Udinese and Napoli, left Okoye with a lasting impression of just how good his compatriot can be on the field.
During that match, Osimhen’s goal was a clear reminder of his lethal finishing abilities. For Okoye, it was more than just a typical goal; it was a show of the striker’s natural talent.
Osimhen’s goal-scoring ability: A game-changer for Okoye
As he reflected on the moment, the Udinese keeper emphasised how it’s in Osimhen’s DNA to score—no matter the situation.
It’s almost as if the Nigerian forward is destined to find the back of the net, a trait that Maduka admits makes him a constant threat.
Despite the high stakes of facing such a prolific forward, the Business goalie expressed nothing but admiration for the Nigerian forward’s qualities.
In an exclusive conversation with Sporty TV, he recounted how, even after Osimhen’s goal, the striker chose not to celebrate.
For Okoye, this gesture was more than just a lack of celebration—it was a sign of respect. He understood that Napoli loanee was simply doing his job.
“I faced also my brother Osimhen; it’s also something not easy to face. A lot of quality players in the Serie A.
“Osimhen scored one goal against me; we played 1-1 at home against Napoli. It’s in his DNA to score, and for him, it’s not possible to not score.
“He’s too much of a quality striker, but people could see that he didn’t celebrate the goal. It meant a lot to me; he has to do his job. This man is too dangerous not to score,” Okoye said.
Whether it’s his speed, precision, or ability to find space in the box, Osimhen is a constant threat to any goalkeeper.
