The League Management Company, LMC has lambasted the supporters of Shooting Stars SC who attacked Remo Stars and journalists after their 1-1 draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Remo Stars, who are now sixth in the Nigeria Professional Football League rankings, were in Oyo State’s capital to play their regional rivals on Matchday 31.
The commotion erupted as journalists finished their post-match interviews, according to on-the-ground sources and video circulating on social media. They were purportedly told to leave the Adamsingba’s main bowl.
Tobi Adepoju, an independent journalist, said that he was harassed by 3SC management with the consent of the General Manager, Oladimeji Lawal, as a result of the uproar.
“He [is] connected to it 100%, the entire 3SC management knew about it. It started from the club backroom staff. 3SC backroom staff started the assault, Dimeji and the Chairman were sitting a few meters away from me,” Adepoju wrote on his Twitter handle in reply to someone who questioned his claims.

While narrating her experience on Twitter, another journalist, Atinuke Esan, noted;
“I’ve heard about it but today it happened to me. I was harassed at Lekan Salami Stadium today alongside [Tobi Adepoju]. He was slapped but I was pushed outside. The saving grace was [that] I am a lady. Shooting Stars management witnessed it happen.”
“I stood beside [Tobi Adepoju] as he was slapped. The thing be like dream (sic). He would have slapped me too if not someone that said, ‘leave am na lady‘,” she wrote.

As a result of the incident, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan was fined N3 million by the League Management Company (LMC) on Friday for fans’ assault on sports journalist Tobi Adepoju. It also demanded that the club compensate him with N500,000.
The LMC expressed its displeasure with the attack, calling it “capable of bringing the game to disrepute.”
