Celtic have made a powerful move in the transfer market, announcing the signing of Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance.
With an option for a further year, the Hoops are placing their faith in a proven goalscorer who has already lifted trophies in England and played at the highest level in Europe, Footballrover reports.
Kelechi Iheanacho Brings Experience to Celtic
The 28-year-old forward arrives at Parkhead with an impressive résumé. He began his career with Manchester City, where he spent two years and won a League Cup medal.
His sharp finishing and technical ability quickly made him a fan favorite.
Following his spell at the Etihad, Iheanacho joined Leicester City, making over 200 appearances and playing under Brendan Rodgers.
During his time with the Foxes, he helped the club to an FA Cup triumph in 2021.
In 2024, the striker moved to Sevilla in Spain before finishing the 2024/25 season on loan with Middlesbrough in the English Championship.
His international career is equally decorated, with nearly 60 caps for Nigeria, including playing a crucial role in their runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Rodgers Confident in His New Signing
Brendan Rodgers knows exactly what the striker brings to the table. Having managed Iheanacho at Leicester, he expressed his excitement over reuniting with the player.
“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate,” Rodgers said.
He added: “I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”
With Rodgers’ trust and Iheanacho’s hunger, Celtic’s attack looks set for an explosive season.
