Super Eagles forward Josh Maja delivered an impressive performance on Sunday, getting on the scoresheet as West Bromwich Albion faced Swansea City in their FA Cup third-round clash and helping his side secure victory via a penalty shootout.
The 27-year-old striker netted his first goal since October, which was also his second of the season, to go with one assist so far in the campaign, Footballrover reports.
Josh Maja Ends 2-month Goal Drought to Rescue West Brom
Maja last found the back of the net on October 1, 2025, when his goal sealed a narrow 1–0 Championship win for West Brom over Norwich City. Since then, he had endured a two-month, 18-game goal drought.
With West Brom already trailing, the Nigerian international stepped up to score the equaliser, dragging his team back into the contest and setting the stage for their eventual victory.
West Bromwich Albion ended a run of 10 consecutive away defeats by beating Swansea City on penalties in an eventful FA Cup third-round tie, despite being without a permanent manager.
After a flat first half, the game sparked into life early in the second period when Jisung Eom curled Swansea ahead, only for Josh Maja to quickly equalise from close range.
Swansea created numerous chances and were unlucky not to win in extra time, with Malick Yalcouye striking the post before Jed Wallace put West Brom ahead with a powerful finish.
The Swans responded again through Zeidane Inoussa, forcing a penalty shootout.
The first 10 spot-kicks were all converted before sudden death drama followed.
After further misses from Swansea, West Brom academy graduate Ollie Bostock sealed victory with a superb penalty to send the Baggies into the fourth round.
Nigerian Stars Francis Ezeh and Faith Obilor Shine Abroad
It was also a perfect weekend for other Nigerian stars abroad, with goals and dominant home victories on display.
In Turkey, Francis Ezeh was on the scoresheet as Ankara Keçiörengücü cruised to a thumping 5–0 win over Hatayspor in TFF Lig 1.
Ezeh struck in the 63rd minute, adding gloss to an already commanding performance in front of the home fans.
Over in Malaysia, Faith Obilor also enjoyed a memorable outing as Penang FC dismantled Melaka FC by the same 5–0 scoreline in the Malaysia Super League.
Obilor wrapped up the emphatic victory with the fifth goal in the 85th minute, capping a ruthless display from the home side.
Two big wins, two important goals, and a reminder of the impact Nigerian players continue to make across leagues worldwide.
