It was indeed an impressive performance from Joseph Olowu who, played yet another vital role in Doncaster Rovers’ 3-1 win over Tranmere at the Eco-Power Stadium in Sky Bet League Two.
The 25-year-old Nigerian defender not only scored the opening goal but also put in a solid defensive shift to help his side secure their first home win since October, Footballrover reports.
The Rovers’ ruthless display ended a frustrating home run, with goals from Olowu, Patrick Kelly, and Kyle Hurst guiding them to victory.
Olowu’s opening goal and dominant performance
The game took a dramatic turn when Joseph Olowu opened the scoring in the 39th minute.
After a Jay McGrath knockback, Olowu looped a header past the Tranmere goalkeeper, giving Rovers the advantage.
Just minutes before halftime, the Ibadan-born defender finds the net for his second goal of the season, heading in from a free kick to put his team firmly in control.
Tranmere’s struggles and Doncaster’s ruthlessness
Despite a strong start, Tranmere struggled to contain Doncaster’s attack. Things worsened for the visitors when captain Tom Davies was sent off in the 54th minute for a second yellow card.
With a man advantage, Doncaster capitalised. Patrick Kelly extended the lead in the 66th minute, followed by a confident finish from substitute Kyle Hurst in the 78th minute.
Tranmere managed a late consolation goal from Sol Solomon, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.
Doncaster returns to winning ways
The Rovers’ dominant performance, spearheaded by Joseph Olowu’s crucial goals and solid defence, helped the team end their home win drought.
With the 3-1 victory, Grant McCann’s side moves forward with renewed confidence in their Sky Bet League Two campaign.
Speaking on the home form and roaring back to winning ways, McCann said,
“It lifts the monkey off our back. People keep talking to me about our home form but we’ve been very strong here since February.”
