Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, describing him as a player of exceptional quality and a game-changer for any team.
The Portuguese tactician’s admiration for Osimhen, who recently secured a season-long loan move from Napoli to Galatasaray, is well-known, and he considers the transfer a brilliant acquisition for both the Turkish Super Lig and Galatasaray, Footballrover reports.
Mourinho, who has faced Osimhen multiple times during his stint at AS Roma, did not shy away from expressing how highly he rates the 25-year-old forward.
Mourinho mentioned in a candid interview, as reported by BBO Sports, that he views Osimhen as a great player and would sign him for €70-75 million had it been he’s managing a club with such financial capability.
He also shared that he has a very good relationship with the Nigerian striker.
The connection between Mourinho and Osimhen dates back to their fierce battles in Serie A.
One unforgettable moment came when Mourinho, standing on the touchline, had a brief but impactful conversation with the Napoli star.
Following the encounter, Mourinho likened Osimhen to legendary African striker Didier Drogba, hailing his power, speed, and lethal finishing.
However, despite his glowing endorsement, Mourinho did not hold back on one particular aspect of Osimhen’s game that he finds frustrating.
“I just don’t like the way he throws himself down a lot,” the Special One remarked, pointing out the striker’s tendency to hit the ground during challenges.

Mourinho’s critique does little to diminish his overall admiration for Osimhen, whom he believes has all the tools to dominate in Turkey.
Although Osimhen is yet to make his debut for Galatasaray, he wasted no time in showing that he’s still in top form during international duty with Super Eagles.
He found the back of the net in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Benin Republic, scoring his first goal for the Super Eagles since January.
As Osimhen returns to Istanbul, Galatasaray fans eagerly await his impact. With Mourinho’s high praise and a little nudge to stay on his feet more, the Nigerian forward is poised to light up the Turkish Super Lig.
