With a 1-0 win over Feyenoord on Wednesday night, Jose Mourinho and his AS Roma side won the first ever Europa Conference League trophy.

The Italians won the Europa Conference League thanks to Nicolo Zaniolo’s clever finish, giving Jose Mourinho his fifth European trophy and the club’s first since 1961.

The game’s only goal was scored by Nicolo Zaniolo, who skillfully clipped the ball over the keeper. In Tirana, Albania, his well-taken first-half goal was enough to defeat Feyenoord.

Roma took the lead with their very first shot. Zaniolo latched onto a diagonal ball floated into the box by Gianluca Mancini, chesting it down before flicking a shot past Justin Bijlow.

Chris Smalling, former Manchester United defender, was exceptional in defence for the Italians, helping Roma to survive a second-half bombardment in Albania.

Both Tammy Abraham and Cyriel Dessers were clamoring for the competition’s golden boot, but neither had a chance on goal.

They both failed to make any impact until Zaniolo snatched the ball from Gernot Trauner, cushioned Gianluca Mancini’s diagonal pass, and chipped it over Justin Bijlow.

Feyenoord were attaching Roma back by halftime, but the closest they got was Orkun Kokcu’s skidding shot from distance, which Rui Patricio spewed.

Feyenoord kept on pressing but only managed to hit the woodwork twice within four minutes of the restart.

Mancini started by heading a low cross into his own post. Rui Patricio then pushed Tyrell Malacia’s crackling shot into the goal frame. Roma was in serious danger.

Nonetheless, Abraham was through on goal in a matter of seconds. Marcos Senesi popped up to pull him back, and everyone except the referee and VAR saw it as a clear red.

Luckily for Roma, it didn’t matter much in Tirana when the referee blew the final whistle.

Jose Mourinho is the first manager in UEFA history to win all three European Cups.
