Joe Aribo came off the bench to pull off his magic, but he could only watch Southampton suffer a narrow setback at home against Hull City, Footballrover reports.

The Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo grabbed his first goal of the new year in the Championship as Southampton lost to Hull City 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium.

When Aribo entered the pitch at halftime, the visitors had already taken a two-goal lead courtesy of goals from Fábio Carvalho of Portugal and Anass Zaroury of Morocco.

Zaroury fired Hull City ahead barely 11 minutes into the encounter before Carvalho doubled the lead 25 minutes later, handing the visitors a 2-0 lead before the interval.

Aribo’s goal came late into the game; he found the back of the net just two minutes before regulation time with a hard-driven effort from just inside the box to reduce the deficit for the Saints.

Southampton fought so hard, but it was already too late to salvage a point from the game as the visiting side held on to snatch the vital points.

Despite the defeat, Southampton remains in 4th place with 64 points, just five points behind league leaders Leicester City and 15 points ahead of Hull.
