Chelsea’s new star boy Joao Pedro is not a happy man right now. Despite his brilliance against his old side, he has turned to the Fluminense fans with an apology after firing Chelsea into the Club World Cup final.
The Brazilian didn’t hold back on the pitch — or his emotions after the whistle, Footballrover reports.
Joao Pedro Opens Up After Scoring Against Fluminense Fans’ Beloved Club
Pedro broke Fluminense hearts when he opened the scoring for Chelsea barely 18 minutes into the encounter.
He didn’t stop there — adding yet another just 11 minutes into the second period of the game to seal his side’s place in the final of the competition.
But the goals came with a heartfelt moment as he lifted his hands to say sorry to the Fluminense fans who once adored him.
Fluminense is where Pedro began. He launched his senior career there in 2019 before moving to Watford in 2020.
Two years at Brighton followed before he joined Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side this summer.
‘I Am Sorry But This Is Football’ — Joao Pedro’s Message to Fluminense
After the match, Pedro showed respect to his roots, telling reporters:
“When I was young I had nothing, and they gave me everything. They showed me to the world. If I am here, it is because they believe in me. I am sorry, but this is football, and I have to be professional and do my job.”
On joining Chelsea, Pedro added, “I arrived here one week ago, and now I am going to play a final. The team has been very welcoming to me.”
Named Superior Player of the Match, Joao Pedro made sure his old fans knew where his heart still is — even as he chases glory in Chelsea blue.
The Premier League side will now face either PSG or Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup final.
