The memo, signed by Mohammed Ameenu on behalf of the Chairman of the NFF Referees’ Committee, cited the referee’s actions as detrimental to the integrity of both refereeing and football in Nigeria.
The letter stated:
“In view of the serious nature of the decisions taken in your week 17 match involving Jigawa Golden Stars FC and Sporting Supreme FC played in Dutse wherein your actions brought Refereeing and the game in Nigeria into disrepute, I am directed to notify you that you have been expelled with immediate effect from the league and refereeing generally.”
This swift action was taken to prove the NNL and NFF’s continued commitment to maintaining the best possible standards of sportsmanship and fairness in Nigerian football.
Such action was very necessary in order to preserve the integrity and reputation of Nigerian football on all levels.
