In response to the assault on an assistant referee at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) reacted immediately by slamming Bayelsa United with a 3-points and 3 goals deduction.IMC slams Bayelsa United with a 3-point deduction, ₦1 million

The punishment came after a review of the official match report from their yesterday’s matches against Doma United.

Additional penalties include a fine of $1 million and another $500,000 for failing to make sure that unauthorized access is prevented to all restricted areas.

The club has also been ordered by the IMC to pay a fine of 250,000 as restitution to Assistant Referee 2, Ojeleye Ebenezer, who was assaulted.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa United has formally distanced itself from the attack during the game while declaring that the Police have apprehended the offender.

In a statement, Bayelsa United revealed that the police had detained the thug who assaulted the match official during their match day five of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Samson Slasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

Following the sinful act by the tout, who is known for such behavior, the hoodlum Joseph Odede, also known as One Man Riot, was taken into custody by the police soon after the match.

The Tout reportedly attacked the referee outside the stadium and he has has no link to Bayelsa United supporters, who are renowned throughout Nigeria for their polite behavior.

The management of Bayelsa United, who disapproved the uncivilized and barbarous act, noted that they will declare further punishment for him.
