The newly promoted team came into this fixture desperate for a breakthrough, having just played to a goalless draw against Kwara United in their previous outing, Footballrover reports.

However, the reigning NPFL champions, Rangers, displayed their experience and skill, clinching a narrow 1-0 victory at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

The decisive moment came in the 25th minute when captain Collins Ugwueze headed in the only goal of the match, capitalising on a corner taken by Kazeem Ogunleye.

This victory marked Rangers’ first win of the season, while Ikorodu City remained on a quest for their first points in topflight.

Their campaign has been challenging, starting with a 3-0 loss to Kano Pillars, followed by a frustrating draw against Kwara United, and now this defeat to the Coal City side.

In other action, former champions Enyimba secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Lobi Stars in a thrilling contest held in Aba.

Ufere Chinedu put Enyimba ahead in the 13th minute, quickly followed by a penalty from Ekwutoziam Eze just three minutes later to double their lead.

Although Adebayo Waheeb pulled one back for Lobi Stars just before halftime, Enyimba maintained their composure to clinch all three points.
