Igho Ogbu could not have asked for a better way to celebrate his first Super Eagles call-up.

But beyond the goal, this moment carried a deeper meaning—one that honored his late father’s final wish.
Igho Ogbu scores early in Slavia Prague’s dominant win
It took just nine minutes for Ogbu to make his mark. The 24-year-old center-back broke the deadlock at Eden Arena, setting Slavia Prague on their way to a commanding victory.
Tomas Chory doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, and an own goal by Jan Hanus sealed the win in the 34th minute.
Ogbu’s defensive work and attacking contribution earned him the Man of the Match award, capping off a near-perfect night for the Nigerian.
This was his second goal of the season at the Czech club.
The Super Eagles invitee was substituted in the 82nd minute, receiving warm applause from the home fans as Slavia Prague tightened their grip on the league’s top spot with 68 points from 26 matches.
Super Eagles call-up: A father’s wish comes true
Following the match, Ogbu opened up about the emotional significance of his recent Super Eagles call-up.
He revealed that his late father had always dreamed of seeing him don the famous green-and-white jersey again, this time for Nigeria’s senior national team.
“Before he died, he told me he wanted me to wear the green-white-green shirt again, this time with the Super Eagles,” Ogbu shared as quoted by SCORENigeria.
“So, when I received the invitation for the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, it was a huge moment for me. I have taken a big step towards fulfilling his wish.”
With confidence soaring from his latest club brilliance, Ogbu now turns his focus to international duty.
He will join his Super Eagles teammates in Kigali, eager to prove himself and make his late father proud.
