Coach Domo Okara of Bayelsa Queens has claimed that he has a lot of respect for their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) counterparts – Rivers Angels.
Coach Domo stated this on Wednesday evening while speaking to Footballrover right after their victory over their neighbours – Rivers Angels.
During their NWFL match at the Uniport Sporting Complex, Bayelsa Queens defeated coach Edwin Okon’s team 2-1 thanks to goals from Flourish Sabastine and Etim Edidiong.
Sabastian Florence scored the game’s opening goal for the visitors just barely 11 minutes into the first half.
Okah Adaobi’s strong header just before the halftime break pulled the Jewels of Rivers back into the game, but Etim Edidiong’s easy tap-in for the visiting Queens in the 78th minute gave them the victory.
“I respect them a lot, they are a very good side. So when the game was 1-1, I knew if it remains like that, we are going to lose. So we came out in the first 20 minutes to see if we can get one our two goals so we will be able to have the day.” – he told Footballrover.
When questioned whether the victory had pushed them one step closer to the super six, coach Domo declared that his team has no trouble reaching the Super Six of the NWFL.
“Of course, but we will take it one match after the other. I believe we will qualify for the super six, but to qualify is not too much of an issue. The difficulty is to get the sole ticket because every team in the women premier league is tough.”
Coach Domo was questioned if the continental games have had any impact on his team and he responded by saying;
“Of course it gave us confidence. It helped us a lot because we met people outside, we saw how tactically sound they were, we learn from each other. Even my elder brother here – Edwin Okon (Rivers Angels coach), I learn from him too.”
While speaking on the performance of his striker – Flourish Sabastine, the Bayelsa Queen coach noted;
“Honestly, she didn’t play to expectations. Forget that she scored the first goal, she was almost out of the game. She tried and because she scored, I will say she did well, but she did not play up to her potential.”
