In a thrilling encounter at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Heartland Queens stamped their authority in the NWFL Premiership with a resounding 2-1 win over Naija Ratels, securing their maiden Super Six spot. 

The clash, steeped in anticipation, saw Heartland Queens take an early lead through Onyinyechi Kalu’s clinical strike in the second minute, Footballrover reports.

Undeterred by the early setback, Naija Ratels pressed forward relentlessly, seeking an equaliser, but found their efforts thwarted by Heartland Queens’ resilient defence, marshalled expertly by goalkeeper Uchenna Chukwu.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 34th minute courtesy of a sublime finish from defender Chinyere Iheoma, leaving Naija Ratels with a huge battle.

Grace Saliu breathed life into Naija Ratels’ hopes with a well-taken goal in the 68th minute, igniting a late surge from the visitors.

However, Heartland Queens held firm, weathering the storm to emerge victorious and seal their historic Super Six berth.

The clash was laden with significance as both teams jostled for supremacy in Group A, with Heartland Queens ultimately prevailing to claim a coveted position in the Super Six.

Head coach Obi Ogbala’s tactical acumen proved instrumental in guiding his side to victory, as Heartland Queens were determined to overcome a strong opponent.

The result cements Heartland Queens’ status as genuine contenders for the league title, with momentum firmly on their side heading into the Super Six stage.

With their Super Six ticket secured, Heartland Queens now turn their attention to their final regular-season fixture against Dannaz Ladies in Lagos.
