The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, graciously welcomed three distinguished players from the national senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, during a momentous event held at the iconic Lagos House, Marina.
These three exceptional athletes were personally received by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Asisat Oshoala was accompanied by Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift, as they came to extend a courteous visit to the esteemed governor.
These remarkable individuals were integral members of the Super Falcons team that valiantly participated in the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup, hosted in Australia and New Zealand.
Though the team encountered a setback in the Round of 16, their spirited performance and unity on the field ignited a newfound enthusiasm for women’s football across Nigeria.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his deep honor in hosting these Super Stars, highlighting:
“The Super Falcons’ incredible run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup has ignited a new era of enthusiasm for women’s football in Nigeria. Their achievements on the field and the unity they brought to our nation are truly remarkable.”
He added that;
“We will continue to empower and encourage our female athletes, and also work towards a brighter future for women’s football in Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, in a similar fashion last Sunday, the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, also extended a warm reception to two Super Falcons players, Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran, at his residence in Ede, Osun State.
These gifted athletes, both proud natives of the state, were lauded for their exemplary representation of Osun State and the nation on the global stage of women’s football.
Rofiat Imuran, who proudly represents Stade De Reims in France, hails from the vibrant community of Ile-Ogbo in Osun State.
In a similar vein, Rasheedat Busayo Ajibade, an accomplished player with Spain’s Atlético Madrid (ATM), traces her roots to the illustrious Eêsorun, Oke-ba compound, Ikirun, Osun State.
The reception organized by Governor Adeleke was a fitting tribute to honor and express gratitude to these players for their exceptional contributions to both the state and the nation.
