Nigeria’s under-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets, recorded a resounding 6-0 victory over P. Sports Academy in their friendly game at the FIFA Goal Project, Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The Thursday victory marks the team’s third friendly game in three days against football academies in the Federal Capital Territory, following a 1-1 draw against Ikon-Allah Academy on Monday and another 1-1 draw with Miracle Football Academy on Tuesday, Footballrover reports.
The Manu Garba-led team finally found their attacking rhythm on Thursday, scoring twice in the first half and adding four more goals after the break.
This dominant performance comes as the team intensifies preparations for the upcoming WAFU B tournament.
The 2024 WAFU B U17 Championships will take place in Ghana from May 15 to 29, where Nigeria will aim to defend their title won in 2022.
The Golden Eaglets have been drawn in Group B alongside Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo, while Group A consists of hosts Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and Benin Republic.
As the most successful team in international football for their age group, the Golden Eaglets have won a record five FIFA U-17 World Cup titles and finished as runners-up on three occasions.
With this impressive friendly win, the team looks poised to have a strong outing in the upcoming tournament.
