After scoring against Gombe United in their final game of the season, Rivers United forward Chijioke Akuneto has been named the Nigeria Professional Football League’s top scorer, winning the Golden Boot.
In the scoring rankings, there was a lot of competition from teams like Enyimba, Gombe United, Abia Warriors, and others.
With his goal on the final day of the season against Gombe United, Chijioke Akuneto was awarded the Golden Boot. Victor Mbaoma and Yusuff Abdulazeez are among the people he defeated by a margin of three goals to win the award.
The 24-year-old led the way with 19 goals during their gameweek 38 against Gombe United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
In the first 11 minutes of the game, Chijioke Akuneto scored from the penalty spot for the Stanley Eguma team, giving them the lead and victory
While his club won the league title, the Rivers United star player had a successful season on a personal level.
Some of the top strikers in the nation competed for the Golden Boot in the Nigeria Professional Football League, which was as competitive as usual.
The Pride on Rivers held on to their 1-0 lead to see of the game and were shortly crowned the league winners after the final whistle.
Chijioke Akuneto (19) and Rafiu Ishaq (14) combined to score more goals for the Pride of Rivers than four NPFL teams in the 2021/22 campaign.
