Last weekend was indeed frustrating for Nigerian forwards Gift Orban and Akor Adams, as both had goals disallowed during their respective French Ligue 1 matches.
Orban faced greater disappointment with two of his goals being ruled out as Lyon took on RC Lens, while Akor Adams also experienced the sting of a disallowed goal in Montpellier’s clash with Rennes, Footballrover reports.
You can read further to see how both players were left frustrated by controversial calls, what these performances mean for their clubs, and how their desire for redemption will fuel them in upcoming matches.
Gift Orban’s Double Disappointment
It was an obvious tough day for Super Eagles star Gift Orban, who saw two goals disallowed in Lyon’s goalless draw against RC Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Orban appeared to have broken the deadlock just 10 minutes into the game, but his celebration was cut short as referee Bastien Dechepy ruled the goal out for offside after a VAR review.
The first half ended without either side finding the back of the net.
Ten minutes into the second half, Orban once again put the ball into the net, only for the referee to consult VAR again.
This time, an offside was spotted in the build-up play, and the goal was disallowed.
Adding to his frustration, Orban was substituted in the 65th minute, with Georges Mikautadze coming on to replace him.
The game ultimately ended 0-0.
Lyon have struggled this season, managing just one win from four games, alongside two defeats and a draw.

They currently sit in 13th place with four points. Up next, they will host Marseille at Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.
Akor Adams and Montpellier’s Struggles Deepen
In another Ligue 1 match, Akor Adams had a goal disallowed in Montpellier’s 3-0 defeat to Rennes at Roazhon Park.
Rennes took a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half, thanks to goals from Ludovic Blas and Arnaud Kalimuendo.
Just six minutes after the restart, Adams thought he had pulled one back for Montpellier, only to see his effort ruled offside.
Albert Gronbaek later sealed the victory for Rennes with a third goal.
Montpellier’s struggles continue as they remain rooted at the bottom of the table, having suffered three consecutive defeats in their first four games.

Their only point came from a draw in the season opener.
Montpellier will now aim to secure their first win of the season when they host Auxerre at the Stade de la Mosson on Sunday.
Only time will tell if they can turn things around.
