Stella Nyamakye broke the deadlock for Ghana in the 39th minute of the first half from the penalty spot to give the host a 1-0 lead.

Falconets mercurial attacker, Flourish Sabastine, had committed a professional foul in Nigeria’s goal area, and the referee wasted no time signaling a penalty in Ghana’s favor.

Amina Bello and Opeyemi Ajakaye’s combination within the eighteen-yard box of the host failed to give the Falconets an early lead in the 30th minute of the first half of the match.

The Falconets had also sustained pressure on the Ghanaian defense within the first ten minutes of the match but failed to utilize the opportunity to maximum advantage.
Ghana held on to a 1-0 lead until the end of the first half.

A desperate effort in the second half by substitute Adaobi Obi of Nigeria in the 72nd minute of the second half was calmly saved by the Ghanaian U-20 Women’s team’s goalkeeper, Afi Amenyeku.

Flourish Sabastine compensated for her gifted penalty to the host by drawing the Falconets 1-1 in the 85th minute of the second half of the match.

The match ended 1-1 at full time and went into a penalty shootout.

Chinyere Kalu scored her penalty, while Chidinma Ogbuchi, Sabastine Flourish, and Esther Onyenezide lost their respective penalties for the Falconets.

Ghana’s U-20 women’s football team converted three of their penalties as against one for Nigeria to end the final score at 3-1 in favor of Ghana on penalties.

Senegal had earlier won the WAFU A Women’s U-20 Football Championship.
