Mafra endured another frustrating night in Liga Portugal 2 as they suffered a crushing 4-1 home defeat to Vizela despite a spirited effort from Friday Etim, who provided a consolation assist.
The Nigerian forward’s contribution was overshadowed by a dominant performance from the visitors, leaving Mafra deeper in relegation trouble, Footballrover reports.
Mafra collapse despite Friday Etim’s assist
Friday Etim, who has netted four goals in 20 appearances this season, turned provider in the second half, assisting defender Guilherme for Mafra’s lone goal.
However, his former club Vizela had already done significant damage by then.
Vivaldo Semedo opened the scoring for Vizela with two quickfire goals in eight minutes before setting up Natanael Ntolla for a third just before halftime.
Mafra struggled to mount a comeback, and even after Etim’s assist in the 57th minute, their fate was sealed when Uros Milovanovic netted a fourth for Vizela in the closing stages.
Mafra’s struggles deepen after another defeat to Vizela
Mafra came into the game on the back of a goalless draw with Chaves and a narrow defeat to Tondela.
However, their morale took another hit with this heavy loss. Nigerian midfielder Stanley Iheanacho started the match but was withdrawn at halftime, while Prosper Obah came off the bench for Vizela in the second half.
This latest setback means Mafra have managed just one win in their last 10 league games, with six defeats and three draws.
Their overall record after 23 rounds stands at three wins, 12 losses, and eight draws, leaving them in the relegation zone with just 17 points—eight adrift of safety.
With their survival hopes hanging by a thread, Mafra must regroup quickly ahead of their next Liga Portugal 2 fixture, an away clash against Alverca on March 1.
