Orlando Pirates have confirmed that their four-cap Super Eagles star Olisa Ndah, will be out for the foreseeable future after picking up a serious injury during a Premier Soccer League (PSL) game.
The 25-year-old fractured his leg during a match against Polokwane City, which ended in a comfortable 3-0 victory for the Pirates, Footballrover reports.
The injury occurred late in the game, forcing Ndah off in the 84th minute. Though the match was already secured, the Super Eagles defender’s absence was keenly felt in subsequent matches.
Orlando Pirates went on to win the prestigious MTN8 cup against Stellenbosch FC, but Ndah’s influence in their earlier rounds was highlighted by his teammates after the triumph.
Ndah set for lengthy absence as Pirates push forward
Ahead of their upcoming Carling Black Label Cup match against PSL newcomers Magesi FC, Pirates confirmed that the Nigerian defender would be out for the remainder of 2024.
The club stated that his injury required complex medical assessments, and while surgery is being considered, no final decision has been made due to the injury’s delicate nature.
Ndah’s unfortunate injury means he will miss out on several key fixtures, including the Buccaneers’ upcoming clashes and potential silverware opportunities.
The talented centre-back will now watch from the sidelines as his team continues their campaign without him.
“Orlando Pirates will play host to newly promoted club Magesi FC at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday in their Carling Black Label Cup opener. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers will be without key defender Olisa Ndah, who faces an extended period on the sidelines.”
“The Nigerian international, who missed out on playing the MTN8 final after suffering an injury in the league match against Polokwane City, is expected to be out on the sidelines for a lengthy spell.
The Bucs medical department has confirmed that the 26-year-old has suffered a tibia fracture. Due to the location and nature of the injury, the decision on surgery is not straightforward, but based on this type of injury, Ndah has been ruled out for the rest of the year.”
Despite the setback, Pirates remains the best side to win their Saturday encounter at Orlando Stadium.
However, he is now expected to continue supporting his teammates from afar as he begins the long road to recovery.
Pirates fans will hope that the Nigerian international can bounce back stronger in 2025.
