Former Super Eagles handler José Peseiro has officially been named the head coach of Saudi First Division League side Al-Ula FC, opening a new phase in his coaching career.
The appointment puts fresh focus on the former Nigeria boss as he takes on another promotion-driven project outside Africa, Footballrover reports.
Super Eagles legacy shapes Peseiro’s next challenge
Peseiro remains widely known for his time with the Super Eagles, where he served as head coach from May 2022 to March 2024.
His spell with Nigeria was highlighted by a strong run to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where the team finished with a silver medal.
That experience, combined with his recent stint at Egyptian giants Zamalek, adds weight to Al-Ula FC’s decision as the Saudi club looks to push higher in the league standings.
Super Eagles ex-coach targets Saudi Pro League promotion
Reacting to the move, the former Super Eagles coach spoke with clear excitement and purpose, describing the role as more than just another job.
He pointed to the club’s vision, the history of the region, and his motivation to help Al-Ula FC grow.
“Very proud to start this new chapter at Al-Ula FC,” he wrote on Instagram. More than just a club, I embrace the mission to represent a historic region with an incredible vision for the future.
The ambition here is huge, and so is my motivation. Thank you for the trust and the warm welcome. Time to get to work.”
Al-Ula FC currently sit fifth in the Saudi First Division League.
With the season still open, Peseiro’s main task will be to guide the club into the promotion race and challenge for a place in the Saudi Pro League.
