Sports Interactive has confirmed that Football Manager 2025 (FM25), the latest installment in its long-running franchise, will now launch in March 2025 and that’s the new release date.
Initially set for a November 2024 release, the much-anticipated game will be delayed to allow more time to meet high standards and deliver a polished experience, Footballrover reports.
In a statement released by the studio on their X page, the decision follows discussions with SEGA, licensors, and other partners.
The primary focus, according to Sports Interactive, is to ensure that FM25 lives up to the expectations of fans, marking a new chapter in the game’s history with technical and visual advancements.
Three key reasons behind FM25 delay
The studio outlined three critical reasons for the postponement.
– First, despite having previously extended the development timeline, the extra time has not been enough to ensure that FM25 meets both fan expectations and the studio’s own high standards.
– Second, the team cited development challenges, noting that progress has been slower than anticipated. Although the team worked at an incredible pace, tight timelines have added significant pressure, and rushing could compromise the game’s quality.
– Finally, FM25 is set to be the most significant technical and visual leap in the series’ history. Sports Interactive is determined not to compromise the launch by rushing, emphasising that additional time is crucial to making the game something to be proud of.
For fans who have pre-ordered the game, refunds will be available through retailers, according to the management.
Sports Interactive also announced that Advanced Access for PC and Mac will still be offered ahead of the new release date, though no specific details were confirmed.
The disappointment is shared by the studio, which has expressed its deep regret over the delay but remains committed to creating the best Football Manager experience to date.
The next official gameplay reveal has been rescheduled for January 2025.
