The Nigeria side brightened their chances of picking a quarter final ticket of the on-going U-20 CAF Africa Cup Of Nations in Egypt.

The Flying Eagles defeated host, Egypt, by a lone goal in the second Group A match played at Cairo International Stadium, Egypt.

Flying Eagles left back, Solomon Agbalaka, towered ahead of four Egyptian defenders to nod in the goal in 71st minutes of the second half the match.

Agbalaka’s goal came from Aminu Mohammed Abubakar’s inswinger from the the right corner.

The goal came as a big relief to Nigeria’s U-20 Coach – Ladan Bosso, whose lads shockingly lost the first Group match to perpetual rivals, Senegal, by a lone goal.

Before Nigeria’s goal, the two sides had battled to a scoreless draw in the first 45 minutes of the match.

The Junior Pharaohs wasted two corner kicks in quick succession in 15th minutes of the first half.

A panicky Nigerian defence almost gifted a goal to the Egyptians from a free kick outside their eighteen yard box in 21st minutes of the half.

Aminu Mohammed Abubakar almost struck again in 27th minutes of the first half when he scrambled the ball from an Egyptian defender, but ended up finishing poorly.

Nigeria’s Ibrahim Beji Mohammed terrific shot in 65th minutes of the second half from a distance also went off target.

Before Nigeria’s goal, Goalkeeper Chijioke Kingsley Aniagboso saved his team from early elimination in the competition when he had a close shave with an Egyptian attacker – Bilal Mazhar, in the 66th minute of the second half.

Flying Eagles are now second with 3 points behind Group A leaders – Senegal, who has 6 points with 2 wins.

Hosts, Egypt are third with 1 point, while Mozambique is at the rear with 1 point and three goals against.

Meanwhile, Solomon Agbalaka, who scored the match winner received the MOTM award.
