Nigerian players will continue to excel in European competitions, notwithstanding the overall disappointment felt by football fans in Nigeria as a result of the Super Eagles’ inability to earn a spot at the 2022 World Cup.
Nigerian players, particularly the Super Eagles forwards, who excelled for their individual clubs in their last campaign, were all involved in the just concluded summer transfer window, which also saw a number of players switch to new clubs.
The 15 most valuable Nigerian Footballers have a combined market valuation of €262m as per the latest update released by Transfermarkt.com after the summer transfer market, surpassing last year value of €196.5m.
The top 10 Nigerians are Victor Osimhen €65m, Wilfred Ndidi €50m, Alex Iwobi €22m, Taiwo Awoniyi €20m, Kelechi Iheanacho €20m, Samuel Chukwueze €20m, Umar Sadiq €18m, Calvin Bassey €18m, Joe Aribo €15m, Paul Onuachu €14m.

Osimhen is not just the best player in Nigeria, but also the most expensive striker in Africa, with a price tag of €65 million.

Wilfred Ndidi, a talented midfielder, who ply his trade at Leicester City, is the Super Eagles star in second place, valued at €50 million.
Ndidi’s value has decreased from a height of €60 million in his career, but it is still much higher than the €10 million price tag he had shortly before joining the Brendan Rodgers side.
Alex Iwobi’s market value has surprisingly increased to €22 million as a result of his exceptional performances recently at Everton, making him Nigeria’s third most valued player.
Additionally, the Midfielder is ranked fifth among Everton players and 152 among Premier League players.
The trio of Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal are tied for fourth place with €20 million each.
This is Awoniyi’s highest ranking in his career; Iheanacho and Chukwueze had previously been ranked higher, but saw their values drastically decline.
The former Union Berlin striker is now placed fourth at Nottingham Forest with two goals in the Premier League so far.
Both Super Eagles Umar Sadiq and Calvin Bassey are also tied at €18 million.
It has been a remarkable surge for Bassey, who started the year with a value of less than €5 million and is now four times that figure.
The former Rangers fullback has enjoyed a well-deserved rise after a fantastic season in which he featured in the Europa League final.
Bassey also became the most expensive defender in history of Nigeria with his move to Ajax.
The next player is Southampton midfielder – Joe Aribo, who has a price tag of €15 million, a solid achievement for the midfielder.
The 26-year-old’s success is not shocking to many football lovers, given that he scored in the Europa League championship game before completing his dream transfer to the Premier League in the summer.
Paul Onuachu of KRC Genk rounds out our top 10 with a price tag of €14m.
