The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Rivers State Chapter has extended its warm congratulations to Rivers Angels Football Club on their remarkable achievement in qualifying for the President Federation Cup final.
The Jewels of Rivers secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Delta Queens in the semifinals on Sunday at the Awka Stadium, Footballrover reports.
Goals from Blessing Okpe and Peace Effiong sealed the win for Rivers Angels, despite a late penalty kick from Okpala Maureen that gave Delta Queens a glimmer of hope.
The eight-time FA Cup champions will face Naija Ratels in the final on June 29th in Lagos State.
In a statement signed by Chairman Cyril Dum Wite and Secretary Comrade Tonye Orabere, SWAN Rivers attributed the team’s success to their hard work, commitment, and determination.
The association urged Rivers Angels to remain focused and not underestimate their opponents in the final, emphasising the importance of lifting the trophy to redeem their image after narrowly missing out on the CAF Women Champions League qualification.
“This is the time to redeem your image as you narrowly failed to win the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six League,” part of the statement said.
SWAN Rivers went on to encourage the new vision queens to put in their best effort and win the trophy, which would eventually make the state proud.
The Sports Writers, however, assured the Port Harcourt-based team of their massive support, stating that members of the association are solidly behind the team.
With this victory, Rivers Angels have the chance to restore their reputation and bring glory to the state.
