While the squad remains undefeated, the Rivers United head coach insists there’s room for improvement, admitting, “It’s not 100% perfect,” Footballrover reports.

The 53-year-old tactician recently led his side to a solid 2-0 win over his former club, Enyimba, in a thrilling encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt over the weekend.

Masterminding victory over old allies

In an interesting face-off between former colleagues, George squared off against Yemi Olanrewaju, who had once served as his assistant at Enyimba.

This time, it was Finidi who got the upper hand, with his team securing all three points.

The Pride of Rivers took an early lead in the 17th minute, thanks to a well-placed strike from Ubong Friday.

As the game wound down, Seiyefa Jackson sealed the win with a decisive goal just five minutes before stoppage time.

With three wins and one draw in their opening four matches, Rivers United currently sit in second place on the NPFL table with 10 points—a promising start to their campaign.

Unbeaten, but not without challenges

Despite the positive results, Finidi George remains level-headed about the challenges ahead.

He was quick to praise his team’s efforts while also acknowledging the difficulties of maintaining consistency in the competitive NPFL.

We are quite happy with our run in the league, even if not 100% perfect,” George said. “Every game is difficult in the NPFL; people don’t know. They just feel that if you get a draw, you would have won it.”

The Rivers United boss also made sure to highlight the contributions of his players, acknowledging their hard work during this unbeaten stretch.

“I must commend my boys so far for the unbeaten run in the league,” he added.

Up next, Rivers United will take on a struggling Akwa United in their next NPFL fixture on Sunday, aiming to keep their new form alive.
