Erik ten Hag, the coach of Manchester United, has emphasized that he is eager to get over with Cristiano Ronaldo saga after his recent violation of club policy and welcome the former Madrid star back into his squad, noting that he still plays a crucial role in the team.
In the recent 2-0 victory over Tottenham, Ronaldo refused to come off the bench and left Old Trafford early. He eventually confessed that he was overcome with emotion and regretted his actions, so he has been benched for the trip to Chelsea on Saturday.
Ten Hag said he had no problem with the striker and wants to keep him around for the rest of the campaign if he has learned his lesson from this most recent incident despite demands for the Portuguese forward to be promptly dismissed from the club.
When questioned if Ronaldo’s suspension would last longer, Ten Hag responded;
“It’s for this game, and then we continue. I’m open for that and for me that is a strike. What we stay in the statement is Cristiano remains an important part of the squad and I count on him for the rest of the season. We want to fulfil our ambitions.”
Ten Hag simply said, “Both,” in response to the question of whether he both wants and expects Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford for the whole of the season.
Ten Hag appears to be prepared to cut ties with the forward in January despite his outward denial. He has grown weary of the media hype that envelops his every move, whether or not he participates in the match.
When questioned about Ronaldo’s potential return to the club, Ten Hag acknowledged that he needs meet with the forward before making any decisions, but was careful to emphasize that this does not imply that he intends to keep Ronaldo out of the lineup any further.
“I don’t think so, no. That is not my purpose. What I said, I don’t want to miss him. I want him to be in the squad, I want him to get in form for every game, because he has an impact. The expectations at Man Utd are really high. The ambitions are really high.”
The Man Utd Boss further stressed that;
“Our fans and our stakeholders expect results, so then you have to act along certain standards. And you have to work every day along it. Cristiano is not in the squad, but he is training to keep himself fit to get ready for the next game coming up after Chelsea.”
