The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving football enthusiasts eager for more action in the tournament, Footballrover reports.

Coach Jose Peseiro showcased his strategic prowess by fielding an unconventional lineup, featuring Stanley Nwabali in goal and a defensive quartet of Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, William Trost-Ekong, and Zaidu Samuel.

The midfield saw Frank Onyeka and Alhassan Yusuf in action, while Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhem formed the attacking front.

Equatorial Guinea took an early lead in the 36th minute, with left winger Ivan Salvador finding the net, assisted by Jose Machin.

However, the Super Eagles swiftly responded, levelling the score to 1-1 just two minutes later.

Victor Osimhem capitalised on a through pass from winger Ademola Lookman, showcasing the team’s resilience.

The second half witnessed minimal anxiety, with Coach Peseiro attempting strategic changes in the 69th minute by introducing Samuel Chukwueze and Joe Aribo for Moses Simon and Alhassan Yusuf.

In the 83rd minute, Calvin Bassey and Bright Osayi-Samuel joined the fray, substituting Zaidu Sanusi and Ola Aina.

Despite Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Jesus Owono earning the Man of the Match title for his outstanding performance against the Eagles, the focus now shifts to the Super Eagles’ upcoming clash with hosts Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
