In a rescheduled NPFL matchday 14 clash, Enyimba FC faced a challenging away defeat at the hands of Stanley Eguma Boys on Tuesday afternoon, Footballrover reports.

Deputy Echeta’s impressive brace and a stellar performance by Abiodun Akande were all Rivers United needed to show their dominance over the defending champions.

The home side took an early lead when Deputy Echeta netted a goal just 12 minutes into the game, capitalising on a pass from Sadiq Abubakar.

The 23-year-old forward continued his prowess, doubling the lead after the restart with an assist from Nyima Nwagua.

Despite the defeat, Enyimba’s coach, Yema Olarenwaju, expressed optimism during a post-match interview, highlighting the team’s efforts and focusing on the positive aspects of the game.

While acknowledging the sting of defeat, the coach identified key takeaways that give him optimism for the future.

We were unlucky because we hit the bar twice. So I won’t criticise my boys openly; they did their best. I’m happy that we are creating chances. We need to improve on scoring, and hopefully, we’ll work on it when we get home,” stated Coach Olarenwaju.

He attributed the loss partly to the challenging pitch and disclosed the team’s struggle with injured first-team players.

A lot of our injured players are just coming back. The away game’s pitch was not as palatable as we thought. We’ll continue to work on our progress, focusing on the next point,” Olarenwaju explained.

Looking ahead to the next fixture against Shooting Stars on Sunday, Enyimba remains determined to address scoring concerns and bounce back from the defeat.

This setback becomes an opportunity for growth as Coach Olarenwaju remains optimistic about the team’s potential and commitment to improvement.

The People’s Elephant is set to regroup and face the challenges ahead with resilience and determination.
