Enugu Rangers’ defender, Stephen Ikenna, soared to an ’emotional high’ following his team’s victory over former club Heartland during Sunday’s Oriental Derby clash in Aba.
The 22-year-old right-back, who joined the Coal City side at the season’s onset from Rivers United, has been instrumental in propelling the team to the zenith of the league table.
Having kicked off his career with Heartland FC and subsequently graced the ranks of Abia Warriors before donning the colours of the Pride of Rivers in 2022, Ikenna displayed his strength in defence as the Flying Antelopes clinched a 2-1 victory over the Naze Millionaires at Enyimba Stadium.
Goals from Onyebuchi Ifeanyi and Kalu Nweke tilted the scales, securing Rangers’ third win alongside two draws in five games, Footballrover reports.

Despite a consolation goal from Heartland’s Ebuka Ogbonna, Rangers maintained their grip to secure consecutive wins in the NPFL.
While reflecting on the game, Ikenna revealed a whirlwind of emotions, especially after outshining some of his former teammates.
He expressed sheer delight at the team’s victory, highlighting the emotional nature of confronting Heartland for the first time.
“It was special and an emotional high when the referee signalled the final whistle,” he claimed, radiating happiness and relishing the significance of the three points for the team.
Another huge challenge awaits Ikenna and his teammates on Tuesday as they look to sustain their peak performance when they welcome Sunshine Stars.
