The win, secured courtesy of Kazeem Ogunleye’s 50th minute free-kick goal, extended the Flying Antelopes’ unbeaten home run to three matches and sent a strong message to their title aspirations, Footballrover reports.

The Pride of Rivers, who managed just one win in their last five matches, entered the game seeking to regain their footing, but were ultimately outplayed by a determined Rangers side.

Meanwhile, the Coal City side was looking to bounce back from a mixed run themselves, having suffered two away defeats before securing two home wins.

And bounce back they did, inflicting a decisive narrow defeat on their visitors and extending their unbeaten home streak to three games.

Speaking to Bsnsports after the match, Ilechukwu was quick to downplay suggestions of a narrow win, emphasizing the significance of defeating the country’s only remaining continental representatives.

This win cannot be described as narrow,” he declared.

Adding that;

  1. When you defeat the only remaining continental team of the country, it can’t be described as a narrow win.”

He acknowledged areas for improvement while expressing his gratitude for the victory.

It is not as if we were at our best, as we failed to take some glaring chances we created. However, we thank God for the victory and we keep working on the team to take the club to the level it rightly belongs,” he said.

Enugu Rangers now have eight wins in the Nigeria Premier League this season and currently occupy the 8th position in the standings with 28 points.

Their next challenge comes on February 4th, when they host Akwa United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
